Amore e Psiche — “Cupid and Psyche” — is a devoted reproduction of the iconic marble statue sculpted by the Italian master Giovanni Maria Benzoni in 1845. One of the most beloved narratives in classical mythology, the story of Cupid and Psyche has inspired artists for centuries — a timeless tale of love, devotion, and transcendence that found one of its most tender and accomplished expressions in Benzoni’s hands. The original statue, a jewel of 19th-century Italian sculpture, is today housed in the Gallery of Modern Art in Milan, where it continues to captivate all who encounter it.
Commissioned by a private client and completed in January 2026, this reproduction was carved in Bianco P Marble — a stone of exceptional whiteness and fine crystalline texture that lends itself beautifully to the intimacy and emotional delicacy the subject demands. The intertwining figures, the softness of skin rendered in stone, the sense of suspended movement — all were achieved through entirely hand finishing, requiring extraordinary skill, sensitivity, and an unwavering commitment to the spirit of the original.
To reproduce Amore e Psiche is to engage with one of sculpture’s most challenging and rewarding subjects — a composition that asks not merely for technical precision, but for a deep understanding of feeling and form. This piece answers that challenge fully, carrying Benzoni’s vision forward with reverence and mastery across nearly two centuries of artistic tradition.
